February's Birthstone: Amethyst

Amethyst is February’s birthstone, the gemstone for those born under the sign of Aquarius and Pisces, and it is also the stone for the 6th and 17th wedding anniversaries. Even if you don’t fall into any of these categories, you can still claim amethyst as your stone. Amethyst has a fascinating history and some wonderful healing properties that make it a great gemstone choice for everyone!

The word amethyst comes from amethystos, a Greek word meaning “sober”.  At one time, only royalty could wear the gem, perhaps because ancient Greeks thought that the amethyst guarded against intoxication. According to gemstone lore, amethyst jewelry keeps its wearer clear-headed and clever.
